Born in Lisbon, he graduated in engineering at the Further Technical Institute of Lisbon where he was an assistant lecturer from 1958 to 1968,
thereafter devoting himself to painting, being self-taught. His painting was developed by joining images from various origins, doing away with values
ideas of depth. As from the 1970's onwards he included photographic techniques in his works, using objects and situations which associate, in personal
fashion, without great concerns for insertion into aesthetic movements. In October 1988 he was appointed the Chairman of the Specialised Section for
Supporting Privatisations, Finance Ministry, the post he currently holds.
He was awarded the degree of “Chevalier de l'Ordre du Mérite” by the French Government.
