Born in Amarante, he completed the course as a Primary Teacher in 1951. He attended the Alvarez Academy, the E.S.B.A.P and the F.L.U.P where he
gained a degree in History and earned a PhD in Art History. Here he lectured various subjects, to wit the Sociology of 20th Century Art History. In addition
to various works in the context of history and art criticism, he worked on newspapers such as the Jornal de Notícias, Diário de Lisbon, D. Quixote, A
Planície, Flor do Tâmega and A República. He is the director of the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Municipal Museum in Amarante.
