Biography
Born in Coimbra, graduated as a Modelist/Stylist from the ARS'Utoria de Milan (1973) and later completed Sculpture with the E.S.B.A.P. in 1975, the
school where he lectured. He was one of the founders of the E.S.A.D., Matosinhos. He carried out activity in the context of sculpture, scenography and
fashion design.
Carlos Marques explores various materials, revealing a preference for the diversity of textures, in marble, granite or limestone. His creation is a kind
of tracing of the creation of nature, opting for organic forms. He also uses ropes which suggest the workshop sculpture work and he frequently exhibits
the preparatory drawings, a kind of “design memorandum” of the pieces.
