As part of the centenary of the birth of Agustina Bessa-Luís, the Educational Project of the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Amarante promotes "Encounters with... Agustina Bessa-Luís" on the 15 of each month. With the aim of exploring, promoting and reflecting on the life and work of the writer from Amarante, the activities are aimed at different audiences and are intended to involve the community.

The first meeting was aimed at students from the Senior University of Amarante and Vila Meã and took place at the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Municipal Museum. After an overview of the life and work of Agustina Bessa-Luís and the recitation of excerpts from her works, the students were given a guided tour of the exhibitions "Feminino, uma história ficcionada" and the “super-menina: espassos, letras e livros".

The next meetings, on 15 December and 15 January, are aimed at Cercimarante users and teachers from the municipality, respectively.

"The role of creating and mediating audiences is fundamental to the success of any project. As part of the Agustina Bessa-Luís Centenary, the main objective is to encourage reading, publicise and promote the works of Agustina Bessa-Luís and, above all, raise awareness in the community of the importance of the literary work of the writer from Amarantina", explains Rosário Correia Machado, Director of the Department of Culture.

These "Encontros com ... Agustina Bessa-Luís" will run until October 2023.
