Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Municipal Museum opens "MUSE, Homenagem a Teixeira de Pascoaes" exhibition

18 November, 2022

On the 11, at 3pm, the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Municipal Museum is inaugurating "MUSE, Homenagem a Teixeira de Pascoaes", made up of works by 21 artists who responded to the open call "Create a work of art inspired by one of Teixeira de Pascoaes' poems", an initiative organised by Amarante City Council in partnership with Galeria MUSO.

Ana Duarte, Ana Isabel de Jesus Loreto, Aurélien Doubrere, Andre Montanha, Chantal Mendes, Claudia Handem, Cristiana da Silva, Fernando Gabriel, Geraldo Eanes, Jaroslaw Mankiewicz, Joana Antunes, José Rosinhas, Maja Babic Kosir, Margarita, Miguel Uria, Patrícia Ferreira, Pedro Coutinho, Romas Tauras, Rute Pereira, Susana Carvalho and Vieira Saraiva signed the 30 selected paintings, drawings and photographs.

Launched in July to mark the 70 anniversary of the disappearance of one of Portugal's greatest poets, this challenge invited contemporary national and international artists to create a work inspired by one of Teixeira de Pascoaes' poems.

"This is one of his aims in the cultural plan of the Municipality of Amarante: to honour and celebrate 'his own' - in this case, by paying tribute to the Poet and encouraging his work to be recognised internationally," says the Mayor of Amarante, José Luís Gaspar.

The director of the Culture department of the Municipality of Amarante, Rosário Correia Machado, recalls that "whenever we evoke Teixeira de Pascoaes, we reconstitute his legacy. To evoke any fragment of the work of the poet from Amarante is to enter the world of the thinker who understood thought in a plenitude of intersections between multiple human languages that constitute a cosmic and trans-linguistic totality."

The 30 works that will be exhibited between 11 December and 19 February at the ASCMM were chosen by a jury made up of visual artists Amber Rose and Wiola Stankiewicz; Zuzanna Hope, from Galeria MUSO; Pedro Maia, a representative of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto; António Cândido Franco, a university professor specialising in Teixeira de Pascoas; and Aida Guerra, representing the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Amarante.
