6 July, 2022

- Open call “Create a work of art inspired in one of the poems of Teixeira de Pascoaes”.
- Exhibition “MUSE” in the Municipal Museum Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso.
- Poems translated to the English language for the first time.

The city of Amarante, in association with the MUSO Gallery, pays a tribute to Teixeira de Pascoaes with the exposition “MUSE”, inaugurated in the Municipal Museum Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso at the end of 2022.

The seventy years of the disappearance of one of the most important poets in Portugal is the theme of the exhibition. It is taking place the “open call” whose title is “Create a work of art inspired in one of the poems of Teixeira de Pascoaes”, destined to contemporary, national and international artists.

Each participant should choose from one to five poems, among the thirty which were selected as a starting point to the artistic works, and each contestant might present until five works in competition. The strategy used for the works’ creation is limited to formats to be exposed in the Wall, such as painting, drawing or photography, not including sculptures, installations or unprinted digital works. The proposals can be submitted, here, between 20 of July and 28 of August.

The jury – composed by plastic artists such as Amber Rose, Pedro Maia, Wiola Stankiewicz and Zuzanna Hope; by the professor specialised in Teixeira de Pascoaes, António Cândido Franco; and in representation of the Culture´s Department of the city of Amarante, Aida Guerra – will proceed to the selection of works between 29 of August and 11 of September. The chosen pieces will be exposed on the 5th of November in the temporary exhibitions’ room of the Municipal Museum Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso and the show may be visited until 26 of February. It will be published a catalogue of the show where we can find all the works and their respective poems. These poems will be translated to the English language for the first time.

At the same time, there will be an exhibition in MUSO Gallery about the same theme, with works of Amber Rose, Pedro Maia, Wiola Stankiewicz and Zuzanna Hope. This project has as partners the University of Oporto, through the Fine Arts School of Oporto, and the MUSO Gallery.
