f/est Amarante – International Photography Festival

20 May, 2022

The second edition of f/est Amarante – International Photography Festival, which takes place from the 27 to the 29 of May under the theme “Rephotograph”, continues to announce new programming.

After the exhibition “Magnum Photos 75 years”, the Portuguese premiere of “As I Was Dying” by Paolo Pellegrin. In this show, the multi-award-winning Italian photojournalist (Magnum Photos) will exhibit global and bewildering photographic works made in war and conflict zones (Lebanon, Sudan, Gaza, Liberia, Iraq, Palestine, among others). In his work, Paolo Pellegrin appeals to collective memory and the sense of co-responsibility inherent in the act of reporting situations of human fragility.
“As I Was Dying” by Paolo Pellegrin opens on May 28, at 6:00 pm, at the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Municipal Museum, and will be attended by the global director of exhibitions at Magnum Photos, Andréa Holzherr. To visit until August 28.

Another novelty in the programming of f/est Amarante is the presence of the performing artist Agata Kay, protagonist of the book “Agata” by the talented photographer Bieke Depoorter (Magnum Photos), at a conference that will take place on May 29, at 3:00 pm, in the cloister of the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Municipal Museum.

On the 28, at 4:00 pm, a conversation about photography and conflict will take place, with the presence of photojournalist Violeta Moura (distinguished in 2017 by Time magazine as one of the 34 photojournalists whose work must be followed; Reuters; National Geographic), by activist Carolina Pereira (founder of the UN Women HeForShe Portugal movement), and psychologist Ângela Maia (trauma researcher at the Scientific Committee of the Stress Resource Center in a Military Context – Ministry of Defense), moderated by Ricardo Alexandre (Deputy Director of TSF).

The other conversation, on the 29 at 4:30 pm, will be about photography and influence on social networks with the presence of photographer André Brito (Nudes Fine Art project), and creative director Tânia Sousa (design at Fashion Clinic, author of the blog Dioespirro), with moderation by journalist Diogo Queirós de Andrade.
