Did you know that Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso paint, at the age of eight, two “Pierrots”?

Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso was born in Manhufe, in the city of Amarante, in 1887. He was one of the most prestigious Portuguese painters.

So, let’s learn a little bit more about the life of this author, the most representative painter of the Portuguese modernism.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, in Portugal, Amadeo Cardoso was famous for being na advocate of Abstractionism. He got 18 values in the discipline “Figura por Estampa”, as a student of architecture.

On the 9 of November 1906, Amadeo departs to Paris to take part in the course of architecture. In this exact day, he will complete nineteen years. He was also hosted by the painter Acácio Lino. Amadeo was a very religious person, as he took with him three little sacred images (São Gonçalo, Santa Maria Madalena and a Christ on a cross).

In a letter sent to his wife Lucie Pecetto, Amadeo says “…tenho mais fases do que a lua” (I have more phases than the Moon).

Since 1997, the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Award has reached twelve editions.
