Biography
Born in Oporto, he studied at the Soares dos Reis School of Decorative Arts and later at the E.S.B.A.P. where he gained his degree. He had a
scholarship with the F.C.G. between 1983 and 1985.
The work of Sobral Centeno is characterised by the presence of an intense gesture on the surface. Colour and gestual movement create a vast
Expressionist pattern which is slightly attenuated as from the 1980's. At this stage, in addition to large, free brushstrokes, clear forms and recognisable
configurations are involved. Between the definition of objects and stain, he has been carrying out his works.
