JORGE PINHEIRO

1931

Biography
Born in Coimbra he studied with the E.S.B.A.P. where he was a teacher between 1963 and 1976, then lecturing at the Faculty of Lisbon. He had a
scholarship with the F.C.G. in 1965 / 66 and 1979 / 90 having studied at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. He was one of the founders of
the Oporto Group “Quatro Vintes”.
Initially the author of figurative works, he evolved into geometric abstractionism, also questioning the specific support which acquires non-rectangular
forms. During the period in which he belonged to said group, he developed these aspects, constructing large objects with smooth, bright colours.
Subsequently, he turned to drawing, with works of great virtuosity, involving a return to figuration (See The Bishops series).
