1958

Biography
Born in Oporto, he graduated in 1985 from the E.S.B.A.P. He lectured Painting at the E.S.A.P. between 1985 and 1990. In 1998 he completed his PhD in
Art History at the University of Salamanca. In 1986 he was a co-founder of the Quadrado Azul gallery and in 1994 of the Por Amor à Arte Gallery in Oporto.
He was an assistant lecturer at the F.B.A.U.P. between 1988 and 2002. From 2001 onwards he worked with the project studio “Nome aos Bois Arte
Contemporânea” in Salvador.
The painting of Augusto Canedo became part of the renovation of figuration which occurred in the 1980's, exploring spatiality, composition and almost
academic lighting.
Subsequently, he did not give preference to the figures, but rather to the shape of the human figure, encompassing stains, textures and natural
materials, inaugurating a cycle which he called “Litoralidade” (coastal life). The proximity of the Atlantic brought about the dominant presence of the
colour blue and fossils which have been recently in techniques recently practised such as encaustics.
