ARMANDO ALVES

1935

Biography
Born in Estremoz, he graduated from the E.S.B.A.P. achieving a grade of twenty (on a scale of 1-20) and he was a teacher there between 1963 and 1973.
After leaving school, he devoted himself to the graphic arts. He was one of the members of the Group “Quatro Vintes” with José Rodrigues, Jorge
Pinheiro and Ângelo de Sousa in 1968.
Having started with figuration similar to the neo-realistic universe, he then opted for material informalism, developed in the 1960's. In the 1970's he
devoted himself to the construction of painted, very salient objects. From the 1980's onwards he resumed the landscape values which he reworked in the
light of an almost lyrical abstractionism.
